شكّل العهد المملوكيّ العصر الذهبيّ لمدينتي بيروت وطرابلس اللتين شهدتا تطورًا اقتصاديًّا مميّزًا ترافق مع نموّ وازدهار الحركة التجاريّة عبر البحر المتوسط وانفتاح أسواق السلطنة المملوكيّة أمام التجّار الأوروبييّن. ونتيجة التقسيمات الإداريّة التي اعتمدها المماليك في بلاد الشام، أصبحت بيروت الميناء الأساسي لمدينة دمشق، وصارت طرابلس أحد الموانئ الرئيسيّة التي تُرسَل اليها منتوجات مدينتي حلب وحماه، فشكّلت نقطة الوصل الرئيسيّة للتبادل التجاري بين أوروبا ومنطقة بلاد الشام الشماليّة. أمّا صيدا وصور، فإنّهما لم تلعبا إلاّ دورًا تجاريًّا محدودًا وغابتا عن الخريطة التجاريّة في البحر المتوسّط، واقتصر نشاطهما على التبادل التجاري مع المدن الساحليّة الشاميّة والمصريّة.
يهدف هذا المقال الى دراسة الحركة التجاريّة التي شهدتها بيروت وطرابلس ﺇبّان العهد المملوكي وإعادة رسم الإطار الذي حصل ضمنه التطّور الاقتصادي لهاتين المدينتين.
